National Paideia Center Announces Appointment of New Executive Director

Asheville, North Carolina — January 6, 2025— The National Paideia Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeremy Spielman as its new Executive Director, effective January 1, 2026. Dr. Spielman succeeds Dr. Terry Roberts, who retired after decades of visionary leadership and service to the Paideia mission.
The National Paideia Center, founded to advance the Paideia Proposal and promote rigorous, humane, and democratic education, is a national leader in curriculum, professional learning, and school transformation.
Dr. Spielman brings 25 years of experience in education and leadership. Since joining the Center in 2017 as Assistant Director, he has played a key role in designing programming, supporting school transformation, and expanding partnerships nationwide. Previously, he served North Carolina schools as a District Director of Professional Development and as a Transformation Coach with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. His career spans roles as teacher, coach, principal, and system administrator.
"Dr. Roberts' leadership has had a profound impact on me and everyone in the Paideia Network. His dedication to excellence and ability to inspire others has created a strong foundation for our continued success. It's been an honor to work under his guidance, and the lessons he imparted will carry forward," said Dr. Spielman.
A scholar-practitioner, Dr. Spielman's educational philosophy centers on asking questions rather than forcing answers, building consensus rather than driving an agenda, and cultivating active listening. He believes collaborative dialogue can unlock the creative solutions necessary to transform public education.
As Director, Dr. Spielman will oversee national programming, partnerships, and strategic initiatives to advance Paideia principles of intellectual growth, active citizenship, and ethical formation.
