The National Paideia Center

Asheville Middle School

In Asheville, NC

AMS has ties to notable Paideia leaders like Alice Hart and Pam Cocke.
The legacy continues as the central meeting point for all elementary students in the
district.

The Asheville Middle School community currently enjoys expert literacy coach
Melissa Hedt and faculty who practice seminar and projects as part of their
natural approach to teaching.

Asheville Middle School is an outstanding example for Paideia Projects as they
have taken the Empty Bowls and helped it evolve into their own Hungry Planet.
The seventh graders study world hunger from many perspectives. They seminar on
and in the end create a bowl that is sold at the soup and bread dinner. All
proceeds go to the local food bank.
